Stand with Hong Kong

As mass sustained protests in Hong Kong continue, I believe it is imperative for the United States to stand with the people of Hong Kong in their continued demonstrations against Beijing. The people of Hong Kong are struggling to hold onto their freedom from Beijing both now and after the expiration of the Basic Law in 2047. While the end of Basic Law is still a couple of decades away, it weighs heavily on the minds of protesters in Hong Kong currently, as they believe that at the end of the designated time period China will end the “one country, two systems” policy it has had in place since China reclaimed Hong Kong from British rule in 1997. Further incursions into the self-rule of autonomous regions threaten regional peace and security.
