Democratic Nominee for Congress, Dr. Cindy Banyai (D-FL19), requested public health measures to reduce the spread of COVID19, but they were not honored

Fort Myers, FL – Dr. Cindy Banyai, Democratic Nominee for US House of Representatives Florida 19, announces her withdrawal from tonight’s Estero Republic Club Debate against Byron Donalds. She cited the organizer’s unwillingness to accommodate requested public health measures to reduce the risk of COVID19 exposure for participants and attendees.

Dr. Banyai stated “I’m disappointed to announce that I must withdraw from tonight’s Estero Republican Club Debate. I have repeatedly requested health and safety protocols, including spacing between seats, masks, temperature checks, and a partition between the candidates. Unfortunately, the organizers did not want to accommodate these requests.”

She goes on “I was looking forward to connecting with members of our community and a lively exchange of ideas, but your health and that of my family, including my youngest daughter who has a history of health issues, are more important than any single event. The health and safety protocols requested are particularly important because Byron Donalds was potentially exposed to COVID19 during his recent visit with Trump. He has not released a secondary test to indicate he is in the clear. Mr. Donalds was also at a rally earlier today that did not observe pandemic public health measures.”

Dr. Banyai sees this as a commitment to science and the wellbeing of the people of Southwest Florida. She said “Now is a time for leadership. Sometimes that means doing something hard. I’m taking a stand for our health and not participating in an event that endangers the people of Southwest Florida.”

Dr. Cindy Banyai is a Democrat running for Florida Congressional District 19, spanning coastal Southwest Florida from Cape Coral to Marco Island. She is a mom of 3 native Floridians and a small business owner. Dr. Banyai has been a decorated professional in the field of community development for almost 20 years, collaborating with nonprofits around the world on issues such as homelessness, children’s services, education, and sustainable development. Dr. Banyai is fighting for our water, our health, and our community. She is running for Congress to lift the voices of the people to be on the same level as politicians and CEOs and to create a Southwest Florida where the sun shines on everyone.
