Dr. Cindy Banyai demands Byron Donalds quarantines after he tests positive for COVID19

Democratic Nominee for Congress, Dr. Cindy Banyai (D-FL19), insists opponent protects community from spread of coronavirus by quarantining without contact for at least 14 day per CDC recommendations

Fort Myers, FL – On October 16, Byron Donalds, Republican Nominee for US House of Representatives Florida 19, announced on Facebook that he tested positive for COVID19 ahead of Donald Trump’s visit to Fort Myers. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), people infected with the virus can spread it for 48 hours before showing symptoms. Additionally, the CDC recommend those who have been exposed to the coronavirus quarantine for 14 days to prevent spreading the disease to others. Little is still known about the possibility of reinfection, but there have been some instances of reinfection, including some resulting in death.

“I want to send my regards to Byron and his family as they deal with his coronavirus infection. I wish him a speedy recovery and health for the rest of his family. This terrible disease that has killed hundreds of thousands of Americans is serious and not something I would wish on anyone.” Dr. Cindy Banyai stated after learning of Mr. Donald’s positive COVID19 test.

Banyai declined participation in an in-person debate with Donalds last week after organizers refused to require attendees to wear a mask. She cited the health of her recently vulnerable child and the community at large for not participating in the debate. The debate was also held hours after a pro-Trump rally in Collier County attended by Donalds that included hundreds of mask-less participants crowded in a small VFW hall.

Dr. Banyai stated, “I am disappointed in Donalds’ leadership around the COVID19 crisis. He has worked against mask mandates and ignored scientists when they tell us about the seriousness of the disease. He put his freedom above our health and now he is infected. I can only hope he has not infected others in Southwest Florida by refusing to wear a mask.”

Dr. Banyai continues “I call on Byron Donalds to quarantine for the CDC recommended 14 days to ensure he does not spread the virus to anyone else. Anyone who has been in contact with him in the last week needs to do the same, as well as get tested. I encourage everyone around Southwest Florida to take their neighbor into consideration and wear a mask, as well as practice social distancing and good hand hygiene so we can end this pandemic for good. Now is the time for leadership on mask wearing and public health practices.”

Dr. Cindy Banyai has been an advocate for mask wearing and has called on local, state, and national leaders to do more to protect people from the spread of COVID 19. She has been sharply critical of Trump’s failed response to the pandemic, as well as that of his locally endorsed candidate, Byron Donalds, and his inadequate response to the pandemic in Florida and opposition to local mask mandates.

Dr. Cindy Banyai is a Democrat running for Florida Congressional District 19, spanning coastal Southwest Florida from Cape Coral to Marco Island. She is a mom of 3 native Floridians and a small business owner. Dr. Banyai has been a decorated professional in the field of community development for almost 20 years, collaborating with nonprofits around the world on issues such as homelessness, children’s services, education, and sustainable development. Dr. Banyai is fighting for our water, our health, and our community. She is running for Congress to lift the voices of the people to be on the same level as politicians and CEOs and to create a Southwest Florida where the sun shines on everyone.
